As far as I know, this coloring book is the only one of its kind. It's such a neat book I can't bring my self to touch it as it would lose its pristine splendor. It became an instant keepsake of sorts, so I'll have to see about getting another one. The illustrations are very nicely done with lots of detail, which makes it good for all ages. Mike Fredericks the owner / editor of Prehistoric Times magazine did the artwork. The narratives of the pictures includes many interesting facts and how to pronounce the names of all the critters, too. Sometimes I still get tongue-twisted. You can learn a lot and have fun coloring at the same time. Just a great book in my opinion.Product details

A wonderful coloring book for the budding artist who loves dinosaurs, and the text is excellent!
Very well done. The dinosaurs are well drawn but not so detail heavy. Each page leaves plenty of room for the reader's or colorer's imagination. This isn't paint-by-number. I think that's a good thing.
A coloring book like no other! Instructional too. The dinosaurs in this book were restored by two of our foremost, modern dino-popularizers—Tracy Ford and Mike Fredericks. Both are paleoartists in their own right. Mike is renown as editor of the acclaimed Prehistoric Times (“PT”) magazine. And for the past two decades Tracy, a significant paleontological contributor, has been writing a column for PT titled “How to Draw Dinosaurs.” This team really knows their dinosaurs and other ’prehistoria’ (forms of prehistoric life). Expertly restored dinosaurs appear on each page, presenting readers with ready-to-color genera, in outlined form, configured in likely paleo-landscapes. Most of the dinosaurs are relatively new to science, and there are familiar old-timers there as well—such as Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops. Several species are up-to-date feathered, reflecting latest views. Recently, a series of ornately designed coloring books have been published for adults to relax with, such as Chartwell Books’ “The Coloring Book For Grown Ups.” Ford’s and Fredericks’ entry, however, is the paleo-alternative for those who would rather contemplate prehistoric life instead, while enjoying coloring. Younger folks will also enjoy this inexpensive booklet. I would recommend using thinly tipped colored pencils rather than Crayola “crayons” when coloring though. Descriptions of each genus are printed at the bottom of respective pages so users (i.e. middle schoolers, adolescents on up) will glean key factoids about each illustrated dinosaur. So ‘What color were dinosaurs’? Paleoartists can rejoice in knowing that (based on scientific evidence), many certainly appeared colorful. But now, with this book, YOU can decide!
Excellent book! Don't be fooled by the title and the fact that it's a "coloring book", which are generally geared for kids. This is a great read all by itself even if you never pick up a crayon! Paleo-artists Tracy Ford & Mike Fredericks (who is also editor of Prehistoric Times magazine) have done a great job in putting together a book that will be enjoyed by not only the young ones who like to color, but also the grown-up amateur paleontologists who are interested in dinosaurs. The pics are very well done, not cartoon-like or "cute", and there is an informative blurb on each animal telling its life style, where it lived, etc. I also really like the fact that it focuses on obscure, newly discovered, or just plain unfamiliar-to-the-average-reader species. While Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, and Triceratops all make an appearance (and really, that's IT for the "usual suspects"!), the bulk of the book introduces readers to such unlikely beasties as Acrotholus, Kulindadromeus, Liaoningosaurus, and Murusraptor. Fortunately, each animal's name is accompanied by it's pronunciation! Definitely recommended for both kids and adults! Great job guys!
